High Trash Fashion

Not all materials are created equally- and that stays true when it comes to fashion too.  Natural fibers, like organic cotton, tend to be gentler on the planet than artificial ones, rayon, polyester etc. How “green” clothing is depends on many other factors too, including where the materials are sourced and what the manufacturing process for them is.

Eco-friendly design Nancy Judd has taken environmentally friendly  clothing to the next level. She makes high-fashion clothes out of materials that would otherwise have been thrown away, as part of her project Recycle Runway.

Her fashions have been made out of old airline seats, parts of glass bottles, and old campaign materials.  And don’t think just because her designs are made from trash that they’re not beautiful. Judd was offered a spot on the reality show “Project Runway.”

She uses her fashions to promote the importance of being kind to the environment. They’ve been featured in malls, airports and museums throughout the country- her Obama election material coat is even being considered by the Smithsonian. To learn more about, and see some of her work, look here.
